This Qualification Specification is designed to outline all you need to know in order to offer this qualification in

Qualification Overview
This qualification is designed to be an introduction to the principles of Risk Assessment. It covers why risk
assessments are necessary, the legal requirements relating to risk assessments and simple processes for
carrying out a risk assessment.
It is suitable for learners working in any environment who need to be more risk aware by raising their
knowledge of risk in the workplace and basic things they can do to control it.

Learning Outcomes
1-- Understand why risk assessments are necessary for maintaining and improving standards of health and safety at work​


  • [*=center]State the main causes of work-related fatalities, injuries and ill health
    [*=center]Outline the moral, legal and economic reasons for preventing accidents and ill health at work
    [*=center]Define key terms associated with risk assessment in the context of health and safety at work including:

    [*=center]accident triangle
    [*=center]hazard
    [*=center]risk
    [*=center]risk assessment
    [*=center]risk control hierarchy
    [*=center]suitable and sufficient
    [*=center]competence


  • [*=center]Outline the role of risk assessment in accident and ill health prevention

2-- Understand the principles of risk assessment​


  • [*=center]Outline the legal requirements for risk assessment
    [*=center]Describe a simple process for undertaking a risk assessment
    [*=center]Give examples of occupational, environmental and human factors that can affect the level of risk from hazards at work
    [*=center]Outline a method that can be used to priorities risks
    [*=center]Outline the requirements for providing information about, and records on, the results of a risk assessment

Assessment Guidance
This qualification is assessed through a 20-question multiple-choice question examination. The duration of the examination is 30 minutes.
Successful learners must achieve a score of at least 13 out of 20.
Following the assessment, a list of results will be provided to DISSC stating whether learners have passed or failed. Certificates for successful learners will be dispatched for distribution by DISSC.

ID requirements
All learners must be instructed to bring photographic identification to the assessment to be checked by the invigilator/assessor. This instruction should be given ahead of the course/assessment when the learner registers and/or with any pre-course materials.
It is the responsibility of the centre to have systems in place to ensure that the person taking an examination/assessment is indeed the person they are purporting to be. All centres are therefore required to
ensure that each learner’s photographic identification is checked before they are allowed to undertake the examination/assessment and write the type of photo identification provided by each learner on the Learner
List under “Identification Provided”. HABC will accept the following as proof of a learner’s identity:​

    [*=center]Signed UK photo card driving licence
    [*=center]Valid warrant card issued by HM Forces, Police
    [*=center]Other photographic ID card, e.g. employee ID card (must be current employer), student ID card, travel card.
