Case study1:
ABC Enterprises is a large manufacturer of toiletries. One of the company’s main products is
tooth paste. The company manufactures both the tooth paste and also the flexible tubes in
which tooth paste is filled. Highly mechanized filling lines are used in the filling of the tubes and
the packaging of the product.
The plastic caps that fit on the tubes are made in a separate building in lots of 10000 and placed
in large cylindrical containers. Typical defects that occur in the caps result from inadequate
material being fed into the molding machine or damage that may occur in tumbling processes
used for removing sharp edges and for cleaning. Since the cost of one cap is 100 baise and
cost of inspecting a cap is 125 baise. There has been only superficial visual inspection of caps
by the tumbling machine operators.
When the caps are completed they are stored in the cylindrical containers until such time as
required to be moved to the filling department. At the filling line, the caps are dumped as
required into a hopper which automatically feeds the caps into the production line.
A persistent problem that has been arising on the filling line is the failure of the plastic caps to fit
on the tubes after the tubes are filled. Failure of the cap to fit on the tube properly results in the
frequent shattering of the cap or tube and the jamming of the production line. Because of the
high speed of the line as many as 30 tubes in a lot may be damaged in the process. Since
filled tubes cost OMR 1.500 each it has become essential to find a way to control the number of
defective caps fed into the production line.

a) What quality control plan would you recommend for overcoming this problem? 15 marks

b) Discuss any inspection procedures that you propose to include in the plan. 15 marks
c) How does the cost influence your plan? 15 marks

السلام عليكم

Should be make compare for production beforeuse control system and after use the control system with production and price

1- Inspection cost
2- Materials cost
3- Rejected cost
And after that make assuming with control system and do same calculation
And after that make compare between your price and write your conclusion
Thanks
